A pavé setting is a method of setting lots of smaller gemstones (typically diamonds) close together, with only very small beads or mini-prongs of precious metal in between them to hold the stones in place. With the naked eye, the ring will appear to be literally paved with gems. Very little metal will be visible.
This setting style maximizes the reflection of light through diamonds – giving off a dazzling brilliance from an unbroken surface of diamonds. There are different sub-types of pavé settings, including micro-pavé and French pavé.
